Administrative, urban planning and environment law

We handle problems faced by individuals (companies, associations, private individuals) and public authorities: permits and authorisations, public transactions and contracts, soil decontamination procedures, expropriations, etc. Our members’ qualifications, our rigorous way of working and our continuous training allow us to achieve high rates of success.

Our approach and qualifications enable us to tackle the legal questions associated with the administrative authorisations that economic stakeholders need in order to realise their plans:

  • urbanisation permit and urban planning permit ;
  • environment permit and single permit ;
  • commercial establishment permit ;
  • licence to operate gambling;
  • authorisation to establish a pharmaceutical dispensary ;
  • etc.

More generally, we defend the interests of private individuals confronted with bureaucracy, in a litigious context or otherwise. Our preferred fields are:

  • decontamination and management of soils ;
  • expropriation ;
  • public transactions and, more generally, contracts to be signed with the public authorities ;
  • utilisation of the public domain ;
  • challenging the responsibility of the administrative bodies ;
  • etc.

 At the service of real estate professionals, our department intervenes in numerous real estate projects, on a grand scale or of a more modest size, and does so throughout Wallonia. Our clients also include leaders in the field of mobile telephony, waste management, supermarkets, gambling, etc. The department is also consulted by public enterprises and institutions, for urban projects, public transactions, structures that are fully public or with the involvement of private partners. In the latter case, competition procedures or the conclusion of complex public-private partnerships, the drafting of legislative or regulatory texts, etc. are sometimes necessary.

The lawyers belonging to the department have outstanding academic references and many of them perform assignments at the University of Liège. They are accustomed to working as a team, always under the supervision of a partner.

The department’s secretaries, Ms Paumen and Ms Bouchat, are highly professional, which not only enhances the quality of the department’s services but also ensures that clients can get in touch at any time.

Our department keeps records of success in the dossiers that it handles, be it before jurisdictions and administrations or within the scope of negotiations. For the years 2014 to 2017, the success rates are respectively :

  • 2014 : 80% ;
  • 2015 : 83% ;
  • 2016 : 95% ;
  • 2017 : 92%.

It is our modest belief that this success rate can be explained by seriousness in handling dossiers and a rigorous way of working, in conjunction with continuous training and involvement in courses and publications.

Moreover, our services benefit from the excellent relations that the department has forged with the principal authorities – legal and administrative – that are competent across Wallonia.
